These sales milestones make us look back at how the game launched. It’s no big secret that the game was in a terrible condition when it hit the market in 2020, but many now consider it the most ambitious rags-to-riches story in gaming history.

When it launched almost six years ago, Cyberpunk 2077 was in a horrific state. It was one of the buggiest releases we’d ever seen, and that came after years of promotion and teasers. Ultimately, Cyberpunk 2077 became a multimedia marvel, going on to spawn other games (now in development), an anime, and a die-hard community with the utmost dedication to the universe CDPR created.

Now, six years later, the title has managed to sell a whopping 40 million copies, which is indicative of the power of that turnaround mission.
