Cyberpunk 2077 2.3’s Release Date is a Blessing and a Curse

Very little is known about Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.3 update outside its release date, June 26, but that hasn’t stopped the hype train. That only speaks to the goodwill and credit that Cyberpunk 2077 and CD Projekt Red have built over the past few years. Sure, recounting the terrible launch would be beating a dead horse at this point, yet that’s not even the most impressive thing. CDPR redeemed Cyberpunk 2077 and has continued to shape that world in new ways even now. Update after update, Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to come back from the dead and be mostly what fans wanted.

For a while now, fans have been treating Night City like home—and home is where CDPR’s heart is. Rumors swirl around Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.3 update release date and what it could add to the game, while others look to the future at possible new DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. Beyond even that, anticipation for The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 is so high that it’s like Cyberpunk 2077‘s release has been forgotten and forgiven. But really, one of the most important tests for the staying power of Cyberpunk comes with the 2.3 release.

Traveling around Night City can be enthralling, but players have to avoid making some mistakes if they want to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 to its fullest.

Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.3 Update – Awaiting the Patch Notes

It’s not all too often that an individual update for a single-player game builds so much hype, especially when only a release date is known. Part of that is because of the 2.2 Update. Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.2 Update was co-developed by Virtuos and released for the four-year anniversary of the game. It came with a lot, including new features, new quests, Phantom Liberty-specific content, and more. It was a great update, hands down, and CDPR revealed that 2.3 was incoming not too long ago. With 6 months between patches, anticipation is high on what it could include, but it’s worth keeping in mind one was an anniversary update and the other seems to just be a regular update. However big or small it is, though, it’s an important proving ground for its continued staying power. As high as anticipation is now, it’s worth asking if Cyberpunk 2077‘s status as a 4.5-year-old game means it’ll buck the competition.

Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.3 Update Release Date is a Proving Ground

  • Cyberpunk 2077 2.3 Update Release Date: June 26
  • Death Stranding 2 Release Date: June 26

Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.3 Update releases on June 26, but so does Death Stranding 2, making the two games competition. The two games, really, are nothing alike. The former is a cyberpunk action RPG telling a specific story around V in a vibrant, if dystopian futuristic city. Death Stranding 2 is an action-adventure game that is apocalyptic in nature, telling a very different kind of story amid a ruined world. They share an audience, as all games do to some degree, but are otherwise distinct in every way that counts.

The only reason they are competition is the date, which happens a lot in this industry. There are only so many days on a calendar. But it poses a unique question for Cyberpunk 2077 2.3: does the 4.5-year-old game have enough staying power to compete for immediate attention against a Kojima Productions game? It’s just an update at the end of the day and fans should keep expectations in check, but how many fans return to Night City instead of going to Australia (one of Death Stranding 2‘s settings) is certainly an important and interesting metric.

Cyberpunk 2077 recently released on the Nintendo Switch 2 to solid reviews.

The good news remains that the wait for Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.3 update is short, but it’s hard to know if fans are going to have time to check out both games, if the audiences are distinct enough that it doesn’t matter, or how many fans opt for Cyberpunk 2077 over Death Stranding 2. No matter what, it should make for an interesting day.
