After a sudden end to their dominating run this year, Gen.G’s star mid laner Chovy reflected on what went against KT Rolster in the Worlds 2025 semifinals.
“I tend to get anxious when we lack late-game value or when the game is not going our way. This anxiety gets to me, I think, and I start making misplays,” Chovy said in an interview with Chaofun following Gen. G’s defeat to KT.
When asked about the biggest challenge he faced at Worlds 2025, Chovy pointed to Gen.G’s approach to the mid lane meta. He explained that a misread of the Orianna-Azir matchup played a significant role in their loss to KT Rolster, suggesting that the draft could’ve been better in game of the series.
Chovy has been hailed as the successor to Faker, carrying the weight of expectation that comes with being Korea’s next great mid laner. His mechanical skill and consistency have defined Gen.G’s dominance in the LCK, but Chovy and his team haven’t been able to replicate the same formula on the international stage. They have been tested by pressure and shifting metas, but they’ve never made it past the semifinals.
The defeat to KT Rolster marked another year where Gen.G entered Worlds as a favorite but fell just short of the grand final. Chovy’s openness about his mental state gave fans a rare glimpse into the human side of a player often known for his calm precision and mechanical prowess.
Despite the loss, Gen.G’s future remains bright, especially because they won MSI and EWC this year. They just need to translate some of that finesse into the Worlds knockouts to get over the line. As for Chovy, the search for that Summoner’s Cup continues as the player will look to transform that mental pressure into fuel to have another shot at the trophy next year.
