The upcoming Call of Duty movie will take place in the Modern Warfare universe, and its official release date has now been reaffirmed.
That detail was confirmed by director and co-writer Peter Berg during a Call of Duty in Culture panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City, where he told fans the film is rooted in the Modern Warfare universe.
In April, Activision announced that the film would be released in summer 2028, setting the June 30 release date. The film sets out to thrill Call of Duty fans by “delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Returns to Nintendo This Year

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare series is also the setting for the next major game release. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is slated for release this October. It’s a pivotal release from the series as this year’s entry will not be playable on day one as part of the XBOX Game Pass subscription. However, this is also the first CoD game to release on a Nintendo platform in over a decade, since Call of Duty: Ghosts, which launched on the Nintendo Wii U.
Activision has promised there will be no “BS or silly skins” in the upcoming Modern Warfare 4 video game. Recently, new details were revealed about the multiplayer experience, with the Kill Block mode confirmed to launch with more than 500 map configurations. Learn more about that here.
