Call of Duty: DMZ is hoping to be this year’s ARC Raiders in the first-person extraction space. It’s going to be released alongside Modern Warfare 4 on October 23rd, introducing the ‘definitive Call of Duty extraction experience’ with an all-new environment, fresh mechanics, and multiple ways to approach the full-fledged game.
The team at Activision has high hopes for this extraction shooter, which has been developed based on years of player feedback and the ebb and flow of the genre. This time around, PvP is a core part of the offering, and to flesh it out, there’s an all-new bounty system that players can lean on.
Building a Reputation in Hajin
Players will explore the vast world of Hajin in DMZ, an all-new map split across three countries: South Korea, North Korea, and Russia. It’s a dynamic, living world with an evolving weather system, a hideout, crafting mechanics, and roving factions. For PvP-focused players, there’s also an intuitive new bounty system.
Activision has explained that players who kill other users without provocation will build a reputation for being rogue. If they slaughter enough players, they’ll have an automatic bounty put on their head, and if players successfully hunt them down, they’ll be able to secure their dogtags and pick up that monetary reward.
It evolves further, though.
The bounty system escalates, and eventually a player will become wanted. At that point, other players will be able to buy intelligence that points to your location, allowing them to hunt you down as part of their raid directly.
This feature has been developed alongside a leaderboard system that memorializes the top players, bounty hunters, and killers, which paints a picture that no approach is unsavory or lesser than the other. Even if you don’t engage in PvP at all, you’re still able to enjoy everything Hajin and COD DMZ has to offer, and that includes a spot on the leaderboard.
Everything we’ve learned about Call of Duty: DMZ sounds very intriguing. We’ll have more to share as the summer goes on – be sure to stay engaged and join the conversation at the Insider Gaming Discord server.
