You won’t think this is real, but at one point, a Destiny Dating Sim was being pitched to Bungie.
Of all the Destiny news players have been hearing this month, with Bungie stopping support for Destiny 2 and not working on the next title, players did not expect that they would be hearing about a Dating Sim. Two developers have now revealed that a prototype was pitched but was never seriously considered for release.
Destiny Dating Sim Was ‘Very Dream Daddy Inspired’
Spotted by Eurogamer, one of the Bungie developers recently responded to a request for a Destiny Dating Sim. Liana Ruppert, a developer on Destiny 2, revealed that a team had developed a version but received a “very Hard No” from leadership, as “nobody wanted romance or silliness.” Ruppert added that this dating sim was “Very Dream Daddy inspired”.
Once this story started picking up steam over social media, another developer chimed in, adding more context for the Destiny Dating Sim prototype. Robert Brookes reveals that this dating sim was actually made as part of an event Bungie held every year for their developers to create prototypes that could be pitched.
Brookes revealed that this Dating Sim idea for Destiny never became a “full-fledged project, but it was being pitched as one every year. The dev, along with two other members, had pitched it with an entire deck that even included costs and “real hard metrics on returns.” However, it was never considered for full release.
