Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has just been released by Ubisoft, with the team delivering on promises made with a product that genuinely lives up to expectations. It’s a wondrous revisiting of one of the most beloved games in the two-decade-old franchise, and it has proven to be a smash hit with fans worldwide.
On Steam, Black Flag Resynced has racked up a peak concurrent player count of just under 100,000 users, which is leagues ahead of any other Assassin’s Creed game to ever release on the platform. That’s including 2025’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was a return to form of sorts for the series.
Black Flag Resynced Soars on Steam
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is storming up the charts on all platforms, but the most transparent is Steam, which openly reveals specific player numbers. In the hours since Black Flag Resynced was released, a peak concurrent player count of 99,451 users was recorded, which decimates all those that came before.

The next closest competitor is 2025’s Shadows, which hit 64,825 players on Valve’s popular platform. Before that, we had Odyssey, released in 2018, which hit 62,069, and then 2017’s Origins, with 41,551 players.
Black Flag Resynced might not have secured the most positive reviews on the platform, but it’s still doing well. Many complaints have surfaced regarding the game’s 30 FPS cutscenes, which Ubisoft has confirmed are the result of a bug, but also because of the many microtransactions available in the game’s store.
As you can imagine, folks aren’t pleased about logging in on day one and being fronted by a range of cosmetics with high price points, especially as they’re pretty fantastical and not suited to the game’s aesthetic.
This launch performance makes Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced one of the most successful Assassin’s Creed games ever made, and at the time of writing, it sat firmly atop Steam’s Top Sellers list. In terms of pre-orders and pre-purchases alone, Black Flag Resynced broke records.
