Starfield isn’t going anywhere. In an update on the studio’s plans, Bethesda head Todd Howard spoke about the franchise and the game’s future.

Despite many assuming that the studio was going to leave the divisive series behind following the latest round of layoffs from Xbox, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Instead, Howard says Starfield remains an “important part” of Bethesda’s future.

More Content Is Coming

As Starfield approaches three years since its initial launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC, Bethesda says it will continue to add new stories, gameplay improvements, and other updates to the game.

The studio is also working on a new Starborn DLC for 2027 as well as efforts to increase the Creations experience for players.

“More than 40% of players already customize their experience through Creations, and we’ll continue investing in creators and giving players new ways to make Starfield their own,” they said.

Since its release in 2023, Bethesda says that over 17 million players have logged nearly a billion cumulative hours in the game. Most recently, the studio released its Terran Armada expansion in April, alongside the launch of the game on PlayStation 5.
