Patrice Désilets says 1666: Amsterdam removed generative AI elements used in pre-production after criticism and no longer uses AI.
Patrice Désilets is known as the creator of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. However, he now works for Panache Games. Their upcoming game, 1666: Amsterdam, was featured during the Summer Games Fest, but the prologue it released in the summer was overshadowed by a statement confirming the game used generative AI in development. In an interview with GamesRadar+, Patrice Désilets clarified that AI was used in conception and pre-production, but it has been completely removed and will not be used going forward.
“Yes, I was a bit [thrown] by those reports,” says Désilets. “Yes, we use some AI in the process, mostly at the beginning,” he continues, “in conception and pre-production. It’s been totally removed, and we won’t be using any AI anymore.”
The game entered Early Access this week. It launched on Steam on August 25 at an introductory price of $24.29.
