ARC Raiders remains a sensational breakout extraction adventure title, even if sentiments have slipped a bit in the last couple of months. It maintains solid player retention and something of an aura, but some of Embark Studios’ latest changes have left players wanting something a little more meaningful.
On social media, images have cropped up showing how far some ARC Raiders players will go to drive the innovation of this game further, bringing their own meaningful changes into the picture. What follows is the tale of how one fan managed to get ARC Raiders working on a Nintendo 3DS XL.
ARC Raiders, But on Nintendo, But Retro
ARC Raiders is currently not available on Nintendo Switch 2, and there’s no indication that it ever will be. While Embark Studios is slowing down major updates and preparing for a Chinese version to hit the market, fans have taken it upon themselves to push the limits of the game as far as possible.
On Reddit, one user shared images of ARC Raiders playing on a 3DS XL console, and by all accounts, it works just fine.
But there’s a major twist, and that’s that the game isn’t running natively on the classic handheld device.

The user, YeezysKanye2020, was using an application called Moonlight to stream ARC Raiders from his desktop PC, powered by an RTX 5070 GPU, to the 3DS XL. Moonlight’s self-written description professes how the app can ‘allow you to play your PC games on almost any device,’ and that certainly rings true in this situation.
The unidentified user even managed to pair a Steam Controller to get away from the 3DS XL’s fiddly touch controls, just to make life easier. He stressed that ‘FPS isn’t actually the problem’, but the controls were the biggest blocker to extraction-based success on Nintendo’s 14-year-old handheld console.
Unfortunately, things turned a little awry (and I ceased advising to pursue replication) when YeezysKanye2020 admitted that a hacked 3DS XL is also needed to run ARC Raiders.
But still, the innovation of some gamers knows no bounds.
