Act 3 of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Explained (Is There a Point of No Return?)

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33‘s story comes to multiple climaxes towards the end of each act of the game. While there is a fairly large open world to explore, players will want to be careful not to lose out on the ability to explore it before they are ready, as points of no return can be a common occurrence in RPGs.

After finishing the second act of the game, the continent will open up, and the end of the story will become clear. Here’s exactly what to expect out of the final act of the game and if there is a point of no return.

Is There A Point Of No Return In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

While there are multiple moments in the story that tell you there is no turning back or that you should be prepared, there is no point of no return in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. No matter what point you’re at in the story or what area you’re in, you’ll always have the ability to travel back to the continent and continue exploring the optional areas or going back to wherever Esquie can take you.

This is true even up to the end of the game. After you beat the final boss and roll credits, you’ll still be able to go out and explore to your heart’s content. The closest thing to a point of no return is that you can only see one of the two potential endings in the game in a single playthrough, with New Game + giving you the chance to see the other ending.

Act 3 Of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Explained

At the start of Act 3, Esquie will get the ability to fly, and every optional piece of content and area is now open to be explored. Act 3 can be either the shortest or the longest act, depending on how much side content you want to do, with all that content also still being there after you roll credits on the main story.

While going to Lumiere seems like a point of no return, you can leave the area and return to the continent at any point during this final section of the game, and even right before the final boss if you want. Lumiere isn’t the biggest area to explore, and those who move quickly can get through the story of Act 3 in about two or three hours to finish out the story before exploring.

Enemies found in Lumiere aren’t much stronger than those found at the end of Act 2, so going straight there is a viable option.

There is no additional content to unlock after rolling credits, so it’s completely up to you on whether to do any and all side content in Act 3 or in the “post-game”. For those looking for a challenge, there are multiple Danger areas that will have very high-level enemies and secret bosses that are much stronger than even the final boss:

  • Endless Tower
  • Flying Manor
  • Dark Gestral Arena
  • Painting Workshop
  • Renior’s Drafts
  • The Abyss
  • Sunless Cliffs
