In another win for legendary JRPGs, Square Enix is happy to confirm that the Dragon Quest series has passed 100 million units in combined worldwide shipments and digital sales. The timing was impeccable, as the milestone coincided with the series' 40th anniversary year. It’s now officially one of Square Enix’s biggest sales benchmarks for any single franchise. If you haven’t already bought a copy, what are you waiting for?
Physical shipments and digital sales for the game have been tracked since April 2015, covering both packaged-game downloads and console and PC digital-only releases. Square Enix had already reported more than 97 million units as of February, meaning the series has reached 100 million before the year is out.
