Two Sonic Game Collections Are Coming to Nintendo Switch

Sega’s Classic and Modern Sonic Collections arrive on Switch on October 20, 2026, bundling six games across two physical releases for $49.99 each. The collections package previously released Switch titles rather than newly remastered legacy games.

The collections were initially announced in June as part of the celebration for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 35th anniversary. Now, we have a definitive list of games included in both collections.

“Classic” Sonic fans should be aware that this term refers to the aesthetic of recently released Sonic games. Interestingly, one title in the Classic Sonic Collection is, in fact, a compilation of classic games.

What Games Are in Sega’s New Sonic Switch Collections?

As first reported by Nintendo Life, Canadian distributor PNP Games has listed both collections with a release date of October 20 and a set price of $50 USD.

The Classic Sonic Collection will feature Sonic Mania, Sonic Superstars, and Sonic Origins. Released in 2022, Sonic Origins compiles remastered versions of four classic Sonic titles: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.

The Modern Sonic Collection features three of the latest Sonic adventures. Those three titles are: Sonic Colors Ultimate, Sonic Forces, and Sonic Frontiers.

The definitive edition of Sonic Frontiers was shadow-dropped on the Nintendo Switch 2 this week. However, both collections are being released specifically for the original Nintendo Switch. They will, of course, also be playable on the system’s successor.

Notably, the Sonic Team has yet to announce any major new releases in the franchise for the 35th anniversary. Sonic PICO PARK, an 8-player indie co-op game, is set for release in November.
