The Last Caretaker, which is one of my top survival games in a hot minute, is officially coming to XBOX Game Pass on day one when it launches into 1.0 next spring. This game, which throws players into an end-of-the-world, survival-crafting scenario and challenges them to build a life for themselves in a stunning environment, has been evolving since it hit early access in November 2025.
When I reviewed The Last Caretaker’s early access product, I awarded it a 9 out of 10 and dubbed it a ‘haunting and, at times, ethereal game with untold potential for expansion and evolution.’ The team at Channel37 is delivering on that by pushing the game into 1.0 in just a few months, and as a nice bonus, it’s coming to XBOX Game Pass.
Survive The Vast Ocean in The Last Caretaker
The Last Caretaker is a very unique and intruiging survival game, and that’s what won me over when I was piecing together my full review for the early access product this year.
In The Last Caretaker, you assume control of an adorable and foolhardy android, left alone at the end of the world on a planet that has succumbed to massive, rising oceans. There are just a few fragments of the old world left behind, and it’s up to you to uncover and explore them, surviving against the odds, enemy machines, and the sheer oppressive nature of the world around you.
It’s a beautiful sandbox with unparalleled exploration and crafting opportunities, and while it’s a little complex at first, it’s well worth a punt for anyone who likes these kinds of games.
The team at Channel37 has just announced that, when the game hits 1.0 in Spring 2027, it’ll be coming to XBOX Game Pass on PC and XBOX platforms. This is huge news, as it’ll open the door to a massive new audience for the game.
To date, The Last Caretaker has sold more than 400,000 copies, and, according to the team, players have spent an average of 50 hours exploring the drowned world.
The road to the 1.0 release of The Last Caretaker is still packed with content. In a new roadmap, the game’s immediate future was revealed, starting with Update 6.0, the next major change, which has been dubbed ‘The Future’. That’s going to hit the game in October.
But it’s worth stressing that The Last Caretaker won’t simply end with 1.0. In a new press release, the team promised more things to come:
Channel37 will continue expanding the game beyond 1.0, with new content, systems, locations, stories, fixes, and surprises still to come. While 1.0 marks the completion of the Early Access journey and the game’s full release, the world of The Last Caretaker continues to grow.
