In an enormous leak tied to datamining activity, scores of unannounced and yet-to-be-released games have had their achievements totally revealed on Steam. This monumental unveiling has uncovered achievements for everything from Persona 5 and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis to Fable and Star Wars: Galactic Racers.
One game of particular interest is Kingdom Hearts 4, as substantial secrets have been uncovered through these leaks. The leak surfaced in the early hours of September 9th, published across Exophase, a popular destination for tracking trophies and achievements across a wide variety of platforms.
Massive Valve Leak Uncovers Secret Games
It appears the leak has arrived by way of a mishap at Valve directly, with the platform’s API suddenly becoming accessible and discoverable. This led Exophase to automatically catalogue them, revealing them to a global audience.
In a statement on ResetEra, the ‘owner’ of the site, a user by the name of x3sphere, said:
Yes I am the owner of the site and this is what appears to have happened. Seems like a possible screw up on Valve’s end, a bunch of games with achievements that should be private are accessible through the API right now and that’s why they got scanned into the site. I usually never see games without an actual name pop up with achievements, yet over the past hour or so a bunch have (when there’s an unknown name we just set it to the AppID).
The list of games leaked is pretty insane. It includes:
- Deus Ex Remastered
- Horizon Hunters Gathering
- Judas
- Kena: Scars of Kosmora
- Thief: The Dark Project Remastered
- Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
- Attack on Titan 3:
- 4:LOOP
- Persona 6
- Minecraft Dungeons 2
- Stranger Than Heaven
- Control: Resonant
- Valor Mortis
- Road Kings
- Kingdom Hearts 4
- Silent Hill: Townfall
- Gears of War E-Day
- Stuntman: Hollywood
- WARDOGS
And a few dozen more games.
This leak has huge implications for the platform and for the wider gaming community. Many of these projects have had their entire slate of achievements, including secret achievements that spoil critical story elements, revealed and blasted out into the open. Games that we didn’t even know existed have been unveiled by this Valve slip-up.
Examples include a new The Walking Dead Telltale collection, a Shrek game, a Twin Peaks title, something tied to Dune, and several more titles that have just placeholder names and can only be figured out with a little sleuthing.
