Riot Games has released a new League of Legends Dev Update with news of Season 3, Act 2.
The new season will be music-themed, coinciding with the leaked K/DA and HEARTSTEEL skins and song.
Riot revealed that the first of its music reveals will be released tomorrow, September 9.
Additionally, Riot also announced updates to voice chat, ARAM Mayhem, and Ranked 5s.
LoL Gets Full-Team Voice Chat
While LoL players can already talk in voice chat with party members in-game, Riot is expanding that to random teammates.
Riot revealed it is releasing full-team voice chat while implementing a wide range of tools, including noise cancellation, faster connection, and more stability.
Voice chat access will only be available to players with Honor Level 3 or higher, with the publisher claiming it’s adding new voice moderation tools to crack down on bad behaviour.
Riot also confirmed the existence of the leaked LoL voice skins, which will allow players to modify their voice.
According to them, current and future voice skins will be designed to be clear and understandable, even in busy teamfights.
These will not be based on LoL champions, as Riot senior vice president Andrei ‘Meddler’ van Roon confirmed on Reddit:
“There are a lot of complexities there though when it comes to how those vocal performances were recorded, what would be involved in letting anyone playing utilize them for different deliveries etc.
“As a result, at least for now, we’re starting with some more general voice skins, not champion-specific ones.”
Meddler also confirmed that the first voice skins will be free, though Riot has had conversations about possible paid versions.
For now, voice chat will only be added to servers and languages Riot is confident it can support.
Therefore, voice chat will first be available in NA and Oceania in Patch 26.20.
If that trial goes well, Riot says it will then follow up in Korea, LATAM, and Brazil.
Other regions, such as EUW and China, will have a longer wait.
ARAM Mayhem Musical Update
The new set of ARAM: Mayhem will start on LoL Patch 26.20, which is scheduled to release on October 7.
This new set will follow the season’s music theme and will come with new Augments.
In this update, a musical act will take to the stage and change the rules of the match, similar to the Guests of Honor system in Arena.
Outside of virtual bands such as K/DA and HEARTSTEEL, Riot also confirmed that there will be new bands themed around the Arcade, Cafe Cuties, and Bee skin lines.
Additionally, there will be new in-game missions which reward players outside of the Mayhem Progression Track for trying new builds with challenges such as sniping multiple enemies from long range dealing lots of damage with ultimates.
- The next ARAM: Mayhem set starts in Patch 26.2, following the music theme and of course, including new Augments.
- When you spawn in, a musical act will take center stage to create more variety in your games, similar to Arena’s Guests of Honor.
- We’re adding new in-game missions with their own set of rewards outside of the Mayhem progression track.
