Battlefield REDSEC Getting Rapid Royale and Proximity Chat

Battlefield Studios is adding a bunch of content to Battlefield REDSEC this month, updating the battle royale title and introducing way more into the competitive ecosystem. In season five, the game gets a new mode, Rapid Royale, which is built around faster matches, more frequent clashes with other players, and less time spent searching the open map for skirmishes.

Additionally, proximity chat is finally coming to REDSEC, landing in the game on September 15 and allowing for ‘new opportunities for unexpected encounters and player-driven moments.’

Battlefield REDSEC Updates Coming Strong

Battlefield REDSEC isn’t a bad battle royale game by any means. That’s something I alluded to in my review, penned when the free-to-play shooter dropped shortly after Battlefield 6 came out. But at the time, it felt like it wasn’t doing enough to differentiate itself from other, more popular battle royale games, so it floundered a bit.

Battlefield Studios isn’t letting sleeping dogs lie with this game, though. They’re adding a stack of new content and ways to play through September.

For instance, there’s Rapid Royale, a new game variant landing in season five that will encourage players to fight against others way more often. It has smaller play spaces, faster-moving circles that suffocate the map, and much shorter match lengths. If you think regular REDSEC feels too slow, this will be the perfect solution.

On September 15, proximity chat is coming to REDSEC, allowing users to communicate with other players on the fly. It’s one of the best tools for emergent gameplay opportunities, and many feel it should have been in the game since the beginning. Better late than never, I guess.

Additionally, the Battlefield REDSEC esports ecosystem is being bolstered more than ever before, with the return of weekly Cash Cups, the new Open Series, and finally, the arrival of the Elite Series. That represents more than $1.3 million in prizes across a global competitive ecosystem.

This is all great, because the game’s esports landscape crumbled months ago, and people thought it would never come back.
