Gran Turismo 8 Hinted at Further by Polyphony Digital Job Listings

If you fancy yourself a veteran Online Engineer, Racing Game Programmer, CG Artist, or one of the many roles Polyphony Digital is hiring for, then you might be able to get your name in the credits for what is presumed to be Gran Turismo 8.

News of a new Gran Turismo game in development broke earlier this year, with Polyphony stating it was ‘Now hiring staff for the production of ‘Gran Turismo.’ With GT7 winding down a bit, job roles suggest that development on a new game is speeding up, and it could be Gran Turismo 8.

Polyphony Digital Hiring For Many New Gran Turismo Jobs

Polyphony Digital has made nothing but GT games since 1997. Outside of mainline releases, we’ve had the odd ‘Concept’ and’Prologue’ games, which are bite-sized ways to experience Gran Turismo—also My First Gran Turismo.

However, the numbered games are the ones we all look forward to. Each release is usually staggered by a few years, and evidence shows that Polyphony needs a lot of people for the next game.

The Polyphony Digital jobs page is looking for a lot of new roles, presumably in addition to the huge roster of current ones:

• Application Programmer
• Pipeline Tool Programmer
• Graphics Programmer
• Sound Programmer
• Game AI Programmer
• Vehicle Simulation Programmer

• CG Artist
• Technical Artist

One of the most eye-catching lines I found was in the Vehicle Simulation Programmer listing: ‘The Vehicle Simulation Programmer will work to improve the vehicle simulation engine of the Gran Turismo series, and recreate mechanisms unique to individual cars.’

Polyphony’s attention to detail is second to none, so we could be seeing a real evolution of realism and immersion with Gran Turismo 8.

I personally want to see a return to the grounded single-player aspect of the game, with less of an emphasis on online play. Ideally, everything is stacked with content, so we get the best of both worlds.
