Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword has surged past the one million sales mark on launch day, taking all-time overall sales for the franchise to in excess of 10 million.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the first new title in the series for over two decades and has proven to be a hit, coming as part of Capcom‘s ongoing plan to re-activate existing IPs that have not seen new releases recently.

Given the initial success of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, further releases like this are now extremely likely, with the numbers marking significant success for the company.

Onimusha Series Sales Exceed 10 Million

In a press release, Capcom announced that worldwide sales of the new Onimusha title have surpassed one million, edging the series overall into eight figures.

Capcom states the push in sales is due to “several marketing initiatives” ahead of the launch, including “multiple demo releases and hands-on exhibitions,” which saw the company work to “expand awareness among a broad range of users.”

The company then further emphasised the push to re-activate stagnant IPs moving forward, which will come alongside the release of “major new titles each year,” and Capcom is “working to further maximize corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content.”

Onimusha: Way of the Sword comes amid a big year for Capcom, with releases including February’s Resident Evil Requiem, April’s Pragmata, and the Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The current standout for the company’s 2027 calendar is Mega Man: Dual Override, which will be the series’ first release since Mega Man 11 in 2018.
