GTA 6’s Netflix deep dive sparked a major UK console sales surge, with PS5 sales rising 33% and XBOX Series X/S hardware jumping 34%.

This data comes from Nielsen IQ (via The Game Business), which also notes that Nintendo Switch 2 sales increased by about 33%. However, Grand Theft Auto 6 isn’t coming to that platform.

UK PS5 and XBOX Sales Surge Following GTA 6 Reveal

Grand Theft Auto 6 is the most anticipated game of its generation. With a seemingly solidified release date of November 19, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive seem to own November. The game is so anticipated that some workplaces are even offering the release date off so employees can enjoy it.

The same article, which shares Nielsen IQ information, also includes comments from analyst Ronan Patrick warning that the hope for increased hardware sales from the upcoming GTA game may not be as significant as once hoped.

“We expect, because of [GTA] and Call of Duty, to see an uptick in the install base, but nothing particularly massive. But perhaps some of the fears are overblown when it comes to software. It’s important to remember that the lion’s share of time is often spent on older titles, and the closest analogy we have to a hardware shock is during the 2020-2021 GPU shortage, and you didn’t see engagement or revenue being taken off course. You basically saw a reallocation of spend into software.”
