Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance New Trailer Reveals Story Details

Today (3), during the PlayStation State of Play, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Capcom‘s highly anticipated expansion, received a robust trailer showcasing story details, gameplay, and some of the monsters coming to the game. Unfortunately, a concrete release date was not announced, only a vague 2027 window, leaving fans even more eager for the expansion’s arrival.

The Next Chapter in Monster Hunter Wilds

The events of Ascendance take place after the base game. Today’s trailer revealed that a time skip will occur, making the characters and locations look different from what we saw in Wilds. The catalyst for the story will be the arrival of the Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung, causing unprecedented devastation. Because of this, the story will jump forward several years as the Expedition fortifies its position in preparation for Lao-Shan Lung’s return, culminating in the construction of the Madoi Stronghold.

As time passes, the mist caused by the dragon’s arrival dissipates, revealing the Skybound Eyrie, a brand-new location above the clouds. As players explore this drastically altered world, ecological disturbances are discovered, guardian monster habitats are expanded, and other Elder Dragons begin to emerge, including the brand-new Gundoraja, a monster capable of manipulating storms.

New Gameplay Features, Demo and How to Access Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance

Gameplay will also be expanded with the inclusion of the Boost Bracer, equipment that temporarily enhances the hunter’s abilities, amplifying the characteristics and strengths of each of the game’s 14 weapons.

To attract new players, Capcom also announced that a demo of the Monster Hunter Wilds prologue is available. Last but not least, the requirements to start playing the expansion were also revealed: players will have to complete the “Awakening From a Dream” quest and reach Hunter Rank 40.
