STALKER 2’s Second DLC Will Be ‘Quite Different’ From Cost of Hope

STALKER 2 enjoyed a resurgence recently with the arrival of the 2.0 update and the Cost of Hope expansion, the game’s first major story DLC. That’s not the end of the road, of course, and another expansion is on the way.

During this year’s Gamescom event, I sat down with GSC Game World to discuss the ongoing development of STALKER 2, and naturally, we touched on where things go from here. Together, Ievgen and Maria Grygorovych told me about the game’s second DLC, and while I can’t reveal everything, I can tell you that it promises to be quite different from Cost of Hope.

The pair stressed that players won’t expect what’s coming.

STALKER 2 Isn’t Finished Yet

GSC Game World has spent the last two years fleshing out STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which dropped late in 2024 to a mixed reception. It has grown and evolved since, with some sizeable patches pushing the game’s content loop further and optimizing it with each new iteration.

That concept is far from finished, and the team is hard at work developing the next major expansion, now that Cost of Hope has landed.

For reference, I had my hands on Cost of Hope early for a review, and to give you an idea of how well it hit, I said this:

Cost of Hope is a phenomenal expansion of an already incredible world, and it sets the stage for a dramatic evolution yet to come.

From here, The Zone remains your oyster, but it’s yet to be shaped by GSC Game World in the ultimate way, and that’s through the delivery of the game’s second and final expansion. There are other things in the pipeline, such as the free multiplayer update that remains in development, but the second DLC will be the icing on the irradiated cake.

Talking to Ievgen and Maria at Gamescom, I learned what sits at the heart of the second expansion, but I can’t share that with you.

Instead, I’ll reiterate the point they pushed, and that’s that the second piece of STALKER 2 DLC will be ‘quite different from Cost of Hope’, in a way that players simply won’t expect.

For the uninformed, Cost of Hope was a typical red vs. blue battle between factions, with GSC bringing into focus two of STALKER’s most iconic organizations and pitting them against one another. It was an expansion that changed the face of the world, but as for creativity, it was a fairly simple story.

An incredible experience, but a pretty easy-to-manage narrative, I mean.
