I had a chance to check out Where Winds Meet’s next big expansion, Hidden Mountain Chapter 2, and chat with the devs at Gamescom 2026, and here’s what I learned.

The preview session began with me experiencing a part of the campaign for Where Winds Meet: Hidden Mountain Chapter 2. It started with an action-packed sequence that included several quick-time running segments leading up to a main boss fight. Before that, I went through a tutorial on the brand-new martial arts style that is iconic in the film industry: Drunken Master.

Where Winds Meet Explain Why Drunken Master Was Added to The Game

The incorporation of the new martial arts style felt genuinely authentic; I was instantly taken back to the old-school Jackie Chan movies that helped popularise it. From the movement to the style of attacks, even some taunting sections felt really great to pull off when taking on the boss battles.

This led me to ask the devs why they chose Drunken Master as the next new martial arts set. The devs revealed that, with each new season, they want players to have a brand-new experience, and, second, they aim to design the combat with an artistic experience in mind. Moreover, the team had decided to collaborate with the iconic Yuen Woo Ping, so adding Drunken Master made a lot more sense.

Moreover, there was another reason for bringing Druken Master to the game. This martial srts style is performed when the person is drunk, which means their combat is more free-spirited. So along with the cinematic level of action design, the devs also wanted to bring that free-spiritedness to the gameply. Additionally, there was another reason for incorporating Drunken Master into the game. This martial arts style is practiced while the performer is intoxicated, allowing for a more free-spirited approach to combat. Therefore, in addition to the cinematic quality of action design, the developers aimed to infuse that sense of freedom into the gameplay.

Where Winds Meet Exploring New Weapon Martial Arts with Yuen Woo Ping

I also happened to ask if any other martial arts inspired by Yuen Woo Ping would be coming to Where Winds Meet soon, to which the devs replied, stating that is the plan for the next half year. They are in deep collaboration with Yuen Woo Ping to design the next martial arts style for them, with the choreographer getting deep into motion capture and the design of the action itself.

Yuen Woo Ping also visited the Netease headquarters earlier this month, with the developers learning much more about traditional and authentic Chinese martial arts from him. His team also went on to explain how the body of an actual martial artist moves, the strength required to wield a weapon, and other aspects of martial arts.

The developers then went on to explain that Yuen Woo Ping is helping design their next weapon-related martial arts as well, which is inspired by his choreography in the blockbuster action movies he has been a part of.
