Reportedly, 89% of the pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are for the $100 Ultimate Edition. This comes just after Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that consumer trends were leaning more towards the premium edition of the game.

The numbers come from the digital intelligence firm Sensor Tower. There are also comments from an executive at the firm on trends and when to expect pre-orders to ramp up.

Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of Video Game Insights at Sensor Tower, recently spoke to GamesIndustry.Biz about the massively hyped Grand Theft Auto title. He would say that as more casual buyers pick up the game, sales of the Ultimate Edition will drop. However, it should be expected that all sales will be above the industry standard.

The vast majority of the marketing campaign hasn’t kicked off yet, and most of the preorders will come in the last week or so pre-launch,” he says. “I expect the split for these to be much closer to 50/50. That being said, GTA6 is very hard to forecast, given it lives in a league of its own. There is no benchmark for how this game will perform from here.”

Data also show that 90% of buyers on XBOX went for the Ultimate Edition, and about the same number on PlayStation, with a slight drop to 88.5%. Later this month, a major extended look at the game is coming via Netflix. Strauss Zelnick recently had some optimistic comments regarding that relationship.
