The Witcher ‘Project Sirius’ Multiplayer Game Hit by Layoffs

The rocky development of Project Sirius continues, and the standalone The Witcher multiplayer game has suffered a new setback with confirmed layoffs, as indicated by CD Projekt Red.

Project Sirius has been in development for several years, with The Molasses Flood originally heading up development before the studio was integrated into CD Projekt RED.

In 2023, Project Sirius was rebooted to ‘Cut Costs Early.’

We’ve now learned the team behind the game has been reduced to ‘reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development.’

Project Sirius Layoffs Affect 18 People on The Witcher Multiplayer Game

As reported by Kotaku, nine devs have been let go from the team, with nine more being redistributed around CD Projekt RED’s overall outfit as part of a ‘Broader shift in development strategy.’

Nine people have lost their jobs, and with the other nine being moved, this takes Project Siriius’ team down to 65 from 83.

Because Kotaku provided a statement given to them by CD Projekt RED:

“CD Projekt has shared a statement with Kotaku, confirming that four staff in its Boston office and five in Warsaw have been let go, with nine others able to apply for roles on other project. Prior to this layoff, 83 individuals were working on Project Sirius, bringing the total now to 65. “We adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development,” the company said in its statement.”

The first details on The Witcher multiplayer game actually sounded very interesting.

But it does seem like a lot of work and time is going into Project Sirius. I’m not sure at what point you start to become concerned about whether the game will be released.
