The PS5 is a must-own console if you want to play one of 2026’s most-acticipated games—Marvel’s Wolverine. The ESRB has finally given its verdict on the action title ahead of its September 2026 release, and the details are juicy. VERY juicy.

When it was first announced, let’s face it, we all wondered how far Insomniac would go and how they would portray Logan in Marvel’s Wolverine. If the trailers and gameplay footage haven’t told you enough, then feast your eyes on its incredible ESRB rating summary.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (through Genki) has handed out a Mature 17+ age rating for Marvel’s Wolverine.

It includes:

  • Blood and Gore
  • Drug Reference
  • Intense Violence
  • Partial Nudity
  • Strong Language

Again, some of this has been apparent in State of Play gameplay trailers.

However, the mentions of nudity and drug references have rubber-stamped that Wolverine isn’t pulling any punches.

Here’s the full summary of the game’s content:

‘Marvel’s Wolverine is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, and Strong Language. Also includes In-Game Purchases. This is an action game in which players assume the role of James Logan/Wolverine, as he reunites with Team X to stop a dangerous threat. From a third-person perspective, players use melee attacks and special skills to kill enemy soldiers and robots in frenetic combat. Players use their claws to slash, stab, and slice enemies; rage modes allow players to enact faster, more destructive combos and slow-motion finishers (e.g., dramatically stabbing an enemy in the head). Combat is highlighted by frequent blood-splatter effects, screams of pain, and dismemberment/decapitation. Battlefields are sometimes strewn with torsos and limbs; cutscenes can also depict blood and gore (e.g., characters tearing enemies apart, decapitating enemy soldiers). A handful of sequences briefly depict a character’s exposed buttocks. The dialogue references drugs (e.g., “It doubled my production of fentanyl.”). The words “f**k” and “sh*t” appear in the game.’

Blood, screams of pain, decapitation, strewn limbs, gore, curse words, exposed buttocks…what more do you want?

Insomniac is about to ready to delvier a barbaric and beautiful exclusive for PS5 owners in 2026 that the console (and company) very much needs right now.

See for yourself what awaits in Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15!
