How To Play Coliseum in STALZONE—New PvP Mode, Explained

STALZONE has a new multiplayer-focused, PvP-based arena mode called Coliseum, added on July 22 with a new endgame update. It’s fresh content for those who have reached the latter stages of their journey in The Zone, and it’s centered around fast-paced, high-octane action with no PvE mechanics whatsoever.

Put simply, Coliseum is designed to determine the best STALZONE players in the business, and because of that, there’s a hefty barrier to entry. In this guide, I’ll help you figure out how to play Coliseum in STALZONE, taking advantage of the new team-based PvP mode that everyone’s enjoying (well, a lot of people are…)

STALZONE’s Coliseum Mode, Explained

In Coliseum, you’re thrust into an arena packed with players. There are four teams of three players apiece, and it’s a no-holds-barred showdown. There are objectives, though. It’s not just about going mad with the gunny.

You’ll need to identify and capture rifts around the map, and by doing so, you’ll spawn batteries. Once you pick up a battery, you’ll be very visible to other players, so it’s up to you to stay safe under the watchful eye of your teammates as you head to generators and place batteries inside them, which will earn points.

You’ll be able to take over enemy generators to generate even more points.

As you explore Coliseum, you’ll be able to revive your fallen teammates, but a team wipe means a lengthy wait for a respawn, during which time the enemy team will rack up points, so be sure to play your life when you need to.

Before you enter the Coliseum, you’ll be prompted to pick from Free Play or Fair Play. If you pick Free Play, you’ll be allowed to take in whatever loadout you want, as will everyone else, but if you pick Fair Play, you’ll be prompted to pick from one of three classes, as will the other players.

You can pick from Assault, Support, or Operative, each with different equipment and abilities.

If you’re not as well equipped as you might like to be, then Fair Play is the best path forward, as you can get quite a chunky loadout that allows you to experiment with things you might not have used before:

Dotted around the map, you’ll find special charges. These are dynamic, throwable items that have an impact on the world around you, and the players who inhabit that world. For instance, there’s one that can heal, another that can harm, one that generates a smoke cloud, and another that triggers a gravity boost.

Also, you’ll find destructible elements around the map, which can be destroyed using things like a sledgehammer.

How to Play Coliseum in STALZONE

To access Coliseum, you’ll need to head to the pause menu and click on ‘Session Battles’, opening up the screen that hosts Duels, Operations, and other Session Modes. In here, in the bottom-right of the screen, you’ll see Coliseum, newly added in the most recent update.

You’ll also notice that Subdivision Battles has moved, being replaced by Coliseum. To access your Clan Wars, you’ll need to go through the specific Subdivisions tab in the top-right of the page.

It’s worth stressing that you’ll need to be Bar level three to access Coliseum. If you’ve not yet ticked that box, you simply won’t be able to play. That’s because this is endgame content designed for the most skilled player. It’s not for ‘everyone’, truth be told.
