What many thought would be impossible has turned out to be a daunting reality for LA Thieves. Today, the team was eliminated early in the Call of Duty League Championship in Las Vegas by G2 Minnesota, one of the lower-ranked organizations in the eight-team lineup.
This loss came mere hours after LAT’s Scrap was named MVP of the season, and Nium was dubbed Rookie of the Year. The former choice left many disappointed, as it took a while for Scrap to get moving this season, and he (and LAT) only just managed to secure a single chip.
LA Thieves Leave COD Champs with Zero Series Wins
LA Thieves, like Toronto KOI, came into the Call of Duty League Championship in Las Vegas, took to the stage, and were eliminated without winning a series.
In the opening round, LAT was crushed by a dominant Riyadh Falcons team that underwent a major roster shakeup mere days ahead of COD Champs, with Pred dropped in favor of Alluka. Entering the lower bracket, LA Thieves looked decent against G2 Minnesota, securing the first two points and seeking to close out the series with a 3-0 scoreline.
It wasn’t to be, as G2 Minnesota locked in beyond all belief and won three maps on the trot, forcing LAT out of the tournament and moving on to face either the Riyadh Falcons or Vegas FaZe.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Miami Heretics, pushed into the lower run by OpTic Texas, eliminated Toronto KOI.
Tonight, the winner’s finals will be organized, represented by either OpTic Texas or Paris Gentle Mates, and Riyadh Falcons or Vegas FaZe. Fans are hoping for an OpTic Texas vs. Vegas FaZe showdown, which would cap the season off with Call of Duty’s El Clásico.
According to the users on Polymarket, OpTic Texas has the best chances of winning the entire tournament, securing three world championship trophies in as many years.
