GTA 6 Could Make $5 Billion in a Week Based on Record High Digital Pre-Order Trend

An industry-leading data firm has suggested that the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 could make as much as $5.2 billion in a single week, based on current pre-order figures. The company, Newzoo, has determined that approximately $260 million has been spent on pre-orders alone globally since the window opened a couple of weeks ago.

The team labelled claims that GTA 6 has already racked up a billion dollars in pre-orders ‘absurd’ and stated that ‘nothing ever will in the near future’ accrue that much on just pre-orders alone, especially as we’re still 21 weeks out from launch.

GTA 6 Has Broken Many Records Already

Newzoo’s freshest report indicates that Grand Theft Auto 6 has already smashed records as the strongest pre-order campaign in history, and Rockstar Games and Take-Two are yet to begin marketing in earnest. We’re still awaiting trailer three, after all.

The team’s Game Performance Monitor suggests that, across the United States and five key European markets, GTA 6 has generated $180 million in pre-orders. When extrapolated, that could be as much as $260 million in pre-orders worldwide.

Newzoo’s Ronan Patrick explained:

What the data actually shows is $180 million in digital pre-order spend across the US and the five largest European markets in the final week of June, translating to a global opening week of roughly $260 million, with most of the ramp still ahead.

Run that figure through the plausible band of preorder curves, and GTA VI is on track to book between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in week-one launch revenue.

In 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 made $1 billion in just three days, so it seems fair to suggest that GTA 6, arguably the most anticipated game of all time, could hit around $4 billion in one week, especially as most people are leaning towards the $100 Ultimate Edition and not the $80 standard edition with no frills attached.

Patrick went on record as saying:

The first week of pre-orders generated an estimated $260 million in global digital spending, the largest opening Newzoo has observed. For a title launching in May 2027, the scale of demand this far ahead of release is rare, even among the industry’s biggest franchises. Historically, pre-order launches of this scale have been associated with the biggest commercial releases.
