In a bizarre twist, God of War Laufey studio Sony Santa Monica has confirmed the game will release in 2027. Subetly
The news came via a post from the studio on X, which said, “We can confirm God of War Laufey will be available on disc.”
God of War Laufey Release Date
In short, the simple confirmation is that God of War: Laufey will release in 2027, as Sony and PlayStation have confirmed they will stop physical disc production at the start of 2028.
That means Sony Santa Monica’s tweet saying the game will release on disc suggests it will release before 2028.
In June, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said in a YouTube video that God of War: Laufey could release as early as February 2027, and while that information is yet to be officially announced or corroborated by other journalists, it is the only thing we currently have to go off.

It’s likely that God of War Laufey will be one of the last, if not the last, PlayStation first-party game to release on disc as PlayStation stops producing games for discs at the start of 2028. Just this month, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki sold more than half of his stock in the company two days after the announcement that PlayStation was ending disc support.
While it’s likely not connected, the gaming community has already jumped to the conclusion that PlayStation’s announcement and the pushback from gamers mean that PlayStation could be having second thoughts.
