When Xbox announced its mass layoffs earlier this week, one of the studios hit the hardest was DOOM developer id Software. The legendary studio has seen at least 136 employees let go, with reports suggesting that many were part of the id tech team.
Now, days after the layoffs happened, the studio has taken to social media with a statement regarding its status amidst the rumors and speculation.
id Software Is Moving Forward
In the statement, the studio began by thanking fans for their support during what has been, undoubtedly, a rough week. They then went on to explain that the layoffs hit multiple teams at the company, but they are still well staffed to create new games.
“While our studio was impacted, those changes were spread across teams,” they said. “We still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we’re known for. The team today is about the same size we were when making DOOM (2016). We have always had a flat studio where everyone is a maker, and we will remain true to that philosophy moving forward.”
The company added that the current focus is on supporting the employees who remain at the company, and those who were let go.
“We’re going to keep building the great games and tech that have defined us for the past 35 years, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at QuakeCon this August,” they said.
