The live player count seen in the OG games has been removed from both the Black Ops 1 and 2 ports on PlayStation 4 and PS5. You can no longer track live player data and numbers across online multiplayer, and the community thinks it has a concrete reason as to why this is.
If you take off the nostalgia goggles for the Black Ops 1 and 2 ports, there’s some baggage to unpack: Black Ops 1 and 2 ports don’t have 120 FPS, an FOV Slider, or any graphical improvements, and the less said about the port prices, the better.
Another missing feature, along with Wager Matches and Theater Mode, is the fact that live player counts are gone.
Activision is ‘Embarrassed’ About Black Ops Player Numbers?
The common theory in the Call of Duty community as to why the Black Ops ports don’t have the live player counts is that Activision doesn’t want you to compare the player numbers to Black Ops 7.
It’s no secret that despite doing well, Black Ops 7 is one of the more unsuccessful CoD games in recent memory (again, still dwarfs pretty much anything else).
Battlefield 6’s player numbers dominated Black Ops 7, and users think Activision doesn’t want people to compare the ports to BLOPS 7.
‘They don’t want us to know that there’s 100x the people on these than BO7,’ said X user @JuniorReyes17, whereas @JacobIsTheGoat7 said: ‘I feel like they’ve done this because they’re gonna be embarrassed about how many people would be online rather than black ops seven, but they could always add it in the future. If they can remove the ad stuff, they can definitely update this in the long run.’
Will Activision add them back in? Anything that’s not carried over from the OGs into the ports has been done for a reason, so it’s unlikely this will happen.
