XBOX CEO Asha Sharma has been appointed to a Federal Reserve task force focused on jobs, productivity, and the impact of AI.
The announcement comes directly from a Federal Reserve press release. Several task forces were announced to “advance the conduct of monetary policy.” Five task forces were announced in the press release, with Sharma serving as one of three members of the Productivity and Jobs task force.
The other two individuals are Marc Andreessen, co-founder and general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, and Charles I. Jones, professor of economics at Stanford University. Jones is currently on leave at Anthropic, makers of the Claude AI assistant.
According to the press release, the purpose of the task force is to “assess the economic impact of new general-purpose technologies, including artificial intelligence, to inform the Federal Reserve’s policy judgments.”
“The Federal Reserve’s commitment to price stability and maximum employment is unwavering. As is our resolve to pursue our mandate with rigor,” said Chairman Kevin Warsh. “The U.S. economy has changed significantly over the last generation, and never more so than right now. Each task force will carefully consider whether policymakers’ means and methods, analytical tools and policy approaches can be improved upon. I am honored that the best minds from a range of disciplines have agreed to work with us to sharpen our performance as an institution. The goal is straightforward: to ensure the Fed is best positioned to achieve our objectives in this consequential time.”
Asha Sharma Is Also Spearheading a Big XBOX Reset

As Sharma begins to take on these new responsibilities, XBOX is undergoing a massive reset. On July 6, it was announced that there would be massive job cuts, with several studios acquired by Microsoft’s gaming wing returning to Independent status and some being transferred to new owners.
Ashley Sharma became the CEO of Xbox following Phil Spencer’s retirement and Sarah Bond’s subsequent resignation. Since her appointment, she has been front and center, working to shape the brand’s immediate future.
That future includes the eventual launch of Project Helix, XBOX’s next-generation console that is also planned to be a PC hybrid. Previously, she worked in Microsoft’s AI division. In terms of her beliefs regarding AI in video games, she says she’s not a fan of “bad AI” in gaming.
