ID Software, best known for making the DOOM franchise, is like the latest major Studio to be affected by the recent “big reset” XBOX has undergone.

News first came to light on July 7, 2026, that 50% of the staff at ID had been laid off. Now, updated reports from the Texas Workforce Commission reveal that ZeniMax Media (Bethesda) has laid off 158 people in Texas.

Of those 158, 96 redundancies were made at ID Software’s office in Richardson, Texas. Additionally, 40 remote workers who reported to that office were let go.

On July 6, 2026, Xbox officially announced its plans for a major reset. This includes studios like Double Fine returning to independent status. Additionally, Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, will now report exclusively to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Sharma has acknowledged that the previous regime’s strategy for Xbox Game Pass was unsuccessful and that the current state of the business is not healthy.

Work continues at ID despite the recent news. Progress on a future Wolfenstein game and television show is ongoing. Also, the new Revelations DLC for DOOM: The Dark Ages dropped on July 7. As more shake-ups continue to stem from the recent changes at XBOX, Insider Gaming will continue to monitor all stories and report any updates.
