XBOX Game Pass subscriber count seems to be at a standstill, as it has not been able to cross the 30 million mark in years.

Asha Sharma, the CEO of XBOX, made a significant announcement today regarding the latest round of layoffs. In her memo, she also addressed Game Pass, noting that the service was not growing at the expected rate. Now, a new report has provided updated figures on the current number of Game Pass subscribers for XBOX.

XBOX Game Pass is Still at 30 Million Subscribers

A report from The Wall Street Journal provides additional insights regarding Asha Sharma’s comments on Game Pass. Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard to enhance its Game Pass offerings and increase its subscriber count. In legal documents related to the acquisition, it was projected that Xbox would have around 77 million subscribers this year. However, a source familiar with the situation has reported to The Wall Street Journal that the current number is actually about 30 million.

To put things into perspective, in 2023, a LinkedIn post disclosed that Game Pass had surpassed 30 million members. Then, in 2024, Microsoft provided an official update stating that the service had grown to 34 million subscribers, a 36% increase over the last officially reported numbers. The company’s goal was to reach 100 million subscribers by 2030. Considering the current figures, it’s evident that Game Pass is not growing at the expected pace, as growth has seemingly stalled over the last few years.
