Will State of Decay 3 Be On Xbox Game Pass?

Wholesale changes have taken place at Microsoft in a major XBOX reset, which impacts all areas, including the Game Pass status of upcoming titles like State of Decay 3.

Undead Labs’ State of Decay 3 has been in development under the XBOX umbrella for a while, but a huge shift in July 2026 was announced, bringing an end to the developers’ stint as a first-party studio.

As such, questions are being asked about State of Decay 3’s XBOX Game Pass status, and Insider Gaming has outlined everything we know.

Was State of Decay 3 Confirmed For XBOX Game Pass?

Yes, State of Decay 3 was previously announced as coming to XBOX Game Pass on day one, as it was a first-party title.

Aside from Call of Duty, which had the Game Pass structure altered earlier this year, all XBOX first-party titles are included with an XBOX Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription.

This allows those with a subscription to play the game without any additional purchase on day one of launch, which, when coupled with other first-party XBOX titles over the course of a year, can result in significant savings.

However, despite previously being announced for XBOX Game Pass, the situation may have changed for State of Decay 3.

Will State of Decay 3 Still be on XBOX Game Pass?

It’s unclear whether State of Decay 3 will still be available through an XBOX Game Pass subscription at launch following the changes to Undead Labs.

Undead Labs has secured a new publisher and is no longer under the Microsoft umbrella, meaning there is no tie to XBOX’s first-party rulings on launching day one through the service.

As a result, it’s reported that Undead Labs has no obligation to still release State of Decay 3 on Game Pass, and the terms of the sale mean that the previous agreement may not stand.

However, as XBOX has already gone all-out with advertising of State of Decay 3 on Game Pass, they may want to pursue negotiations for its inclusion in order to save face.
