CINDER CITY has just landed on Steam, at the same time as the developers at BigFire Games shared an in-depth preview of this upcoming open-world shooter. As one of these exciting games coming in under the radar, CINDER CITY might not have landed on your wishlist just yet, but it certainly has managed to find a spot on mine!
BigFire Games is a subsidiary of NC, the game’s publisher, and CINDER CITY is the team’s first game. It looks like an ambitious starting effort, taking elements from games like The Division and Stellar Blade and fusing them in a gritty, post-apocalyptic world.
Become a CINDERKNIGHT in CINDER CITY
CINDER CITY is set to burst into the MMORPG space at some point, bringing years of experience from NC’s teams and using them to flesh out a post-apocalyptic world in ‘near-future’ Seoul.
The Steam page that went live for CINDER CITY on June 30 paints the best picture possible of this game.
It’s a tactical third-person shooter that pits players against monstrous creatures in the fight to take back Seoul, which has been overrun. As players fight, either alone or with others, they’ll make use of vehicles, mech suits, and even aircraft ‘scattered across the open world.’
With a choice and consequence model at the heart of the game, players will pick their missions, take on dynamic events, and explore CINDER CITY how they see fit. And, as the game’s brief promises, ‘the choices you make will shape what this city becomes.’
You’ve got all the trappings of a typical MMO in CINDER CITY, including dungeons, world raids, immense bosses, and a role-based system that leans into the traditional structure of the genre.
These elements sit nicely alongside gameplay that’s reminiscent of both The Division and Stellar Blade. The latter’s influence can be felt in some of the game’s hulking creatures, and all three games have a similar post-apocalyptic streak running through them.
