New Koei Tecmo Game Project ‘Fuji’ Selected for Japanese Government Support Program

According to a new report, an unannounced Koei Tecmo project called Fuji has been found in a list of projects included in a Japanese government support program.

According to a report by Automaton, a new game from Koei Tecmo has been listed among the projects approved by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for the “IP360” initiative. For those who may not know, IP360 is a program launched earlier this year to support the creation of new intellectual property in popular sectors of Japanese cultural exports, including manga, anime, and video games.

SEGA, Square Enix, Konami and More Included with Koei Tecmo in Japanese Government Program

Developers will receive support and subsidies through this initiative to help develop and distribute original IP. This effort aims to expand the reach of Japan’s domestic content industry. Koei Tecmo’s project, titled Fuji (working title), has been included in the official list of games. Here is the description:

“Leveraging Koei Tecmo Games’ expertise in oriental-themed visuals and action games, the company will develop a completely new IP game title, aiming for a worldwide hit and broad IP expansion starting from the game.”

There are several other projects listed by popular developers under the IP360 program. Arc System Works is developing a new fighting game based on their “unique 3D animation style,” which will be elevated to a new IP. Next we have Konami, which has stated that “This project is promoting the development of a new console game title with a view to expansion not only in Japan but also in the global market.”

Then there’s Square Enix, which hasn’t announced anything about a new game but has said they will add support for other languages to bring localization for the overseas market and improve quality through reviews. Next is SEGA, which has stated that they will produce a large-scale game title, “VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS,” which aims to become a long-term IP in the global market by utilizing the latest technology to deliver a high-quality game experience and a design that enables continuous operation.

There’s also Applibot, which is developing a new game IP called “Project Needle” (working title); it is a “highly innovative action game for PC and home game consoles” and will feature a “unique worldview rooted in Japanese history.” Last but not least is DeNA, which is working on the development and global expansion of new mobile games that primarily target the North American market.
