The Last Caretaker’s all-new major update is here, and it’s dubbed New Horizons, for a very good reason. This update is all about setting forth on a mission to rebuild a flooded, fractured world, leaning on Project Eden to bring about tangible change within the world around you.

This substantial update introduces a new progression system, long-term development goals, fresh ways to explore the world, and new tools, amongst other things.

The Last Caretaker: New Horizons is Out Now

Channel37 has continued to expand The Last Caretaker since the game entered early access in November 2025, and the title continues to evolve. The last major update, Below Us, was released on May 13, and it added a small helicopter, new points of interest, and fresh nods to the world that once existed before humanity was forced to leave.

In this update, New Horizons, players are going beyond restoration and repair and moving towards rebuilding.

At the core of New Horizons sits Project Eden, a fresh progression ecosystem focused on a series of pillars: construction, crafting, skills, quests, and committee-driven restoration. The humans who abandoned the planet are now getting more involved, and they’re preparing to influence the future of the once bountiful planet.

Players will be invited to explore more of their history than ever before, seeking out ancient remnants of humanity, such as cave paintings, discarded HoloMemories, and other elements, through fresh discovery systems.

New tools, including the TideRipper hand-jet system, the Rhino Dismantler, Recovery Grinder, and new PECO Grid Scan 2000 device, have been added with New Horizons, and a fresh and sizeable point of interest has been added in the Research Outpost Theta-9 location.

Along with the new content and gadgets, Channel37 has performed a sweep of optimizations and other tweaks with New Horizons:

  • Weather and wave system upgrades
  • Memory consumption reduced
  • HDR support added
  • Controller and UI improvements expanded
  • Performance optimized across multiple systems: weather, vehicles, physics, cables, and large save games

The New Horizons update is available now on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
