The director of God of War: Laufey comments on her personal history with the franchise and how the forthcoming title helps bridge the gap between the series’ different eras.
Laufey was the final game revealed during the recent Sony PlayStation State of Play presentation. A ton of the early part of the game was shown in the final portion of the presentation, which was dedicated entirely to the game’s reveal. In this forthcoming title, players control Kratos’ wife as she navigates her own journey in the afterlife.
Now, the game’s director is speaking about what players can expect from the title and how Sony Santa Monica was allowed to merge the play styles of the original God of War Trilogy with the serious tone of the newer games in the franchise.
God of War: Laufey Merges Classic and Modern Series Elements

During an interview with GamesRadar+, Ariel Lawrence, the director of the upcoming game and a writer of several of the God of War games from the past, spoke glowingly about how this game allows her and other players to have the perfect blend of chocolate and peanut butter, so to speak, when mixing the gameplay style of the different GOW trilogies. She also had some questions of her own about how to properly make those different styles work together.
“I like both of those things, so it’s really one of those, ‘Can I have chocolate and peanut butter together,’ right?… What does it look like for those things to come together, and who can do that the best for us? And, you know, offer that agility, that flexibility, but still, you know, stand toe to toe with who we need to?”
Players will be able to play the finished product when they get their hands on God of War: Laufey. The game currently does not have a release date. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates that do come in the future.
