The Candy Crush All Stars tournament has wrapped, and standing at the top of the table over millions of competitors stands a Brazilian woman named Luana. At the live final in London, ten contestants took to the stage to fight for the lion’s share of a massive $1 million by playing what might seem like one of the unlikeliest games imaginable.
Luana, the champion from Bahia, Brazil, walks away with a $500,000 cut and a one-of-a-kind championship ring, adorned with sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.
Mobile Gaming Wins Again
Candy Crush is often dismissed as being as casual a game as you could think of, but it just won an unassuming player from Brazil a whopping $500,000. The Candy Crush All Stars tournament represents the pinnacle of the esports scene in the space and drew the attention of thousands of viewers.
In a statement, Luana explained:
I’ve been playing for as long as I can remember. I used to be really imaginative. I’ve dreamt about competing in live tournaments, picture a host commentating on my moves, imagine the venue, the opponents.
The fact that ‘Candy Crush All Stars’ exists and I got to compete in it feels like it came straight out of my own imagination. I feel like I’m honouring a younger version of myself by literally living her dreams.
