According to a new report, PS5 sales dropped 50% in May 2026, coming very close to Xbox’s numbers.

For those unaware, Sony announced a major price increase for the PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal, which may have contributed to the consoles’ drop in sales. Up until now, the PS5 and Switch 2 have been swapping places at the top, and it seems May will go to Nintendo’s new console.

PS5 Sales in the UK Were Just 400 Units Higher than Xbox Series X/S

May’s UK sales information for the PS5 comes through a new X post (formerly Twitter) by Christopher Dring. Dring’s new post reveals that PS5’s May sales took a 50% hit in the region and were just 400 units higher than the Xbox Series X/S. The XBOX consoles, on the other hand, saw a 12% increase in sales, boosted by the release of their exclusive title, Forza Horizon 6. The Switch 2 sat comfortably in the first place for the month.

Last we saw for the US in March 2026, Video Game Hardware Sales were up 69%; The Switch 2 has secured the top position, followed closely by the PS5. There’s been an ongoing rivalry between these two consoles to claim the number one spot, with the games available on each platform playing a crucial role in determining the monthly winner. The Switch 2 is a newer console, while the PS5 has been on the market for nearly six years.

In other news, PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog coming across 2026 have been revealed. Additionally, TT Games has confirmed the Switch 2 release date for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. What are your thoughts on PS5’s May sales dropping by 50% in the UK? Leave your thoughts down in the comments, and join the official Insider Gaming Discord server.
