Nikita Buyanov, the head of the studio at Battlestate Games, has unveiled a series of images on social media that tease the incoming Lighthouse rework for Escape from Tarkov. The team has overhauled almost every map in Escape from Tarkov, the spearhead extraction shooter, but Lighthouse is the one that players agree needs the most drastic changes.
It’s arguably the most troublesome map in the game, as everything from the enemies that patrol it to the locations in which players spawn often comes into question.
Lighthouse Expansion Coming Soon
Four images were posted on social media by Nikita Buyanov, revealing a snippet of what’s coming in the big Lighthouse overhaul.
From new points of interest to a rejig of the tasks that occupy the map, Battlestate Games is expected to make some sweeping changes to Lighthouse, which has long been the most divisive map in the game. It was introduced in December 2021 along with the 0.12.12 patch, one of the most monumental and paradigm-shifting updates in Escape from Tarkov’s history.
It’s one of the toughest maps for a few reasons.
First, players must contend with Zryachiy and his goons if they want to venture towards the lighthouse itself, which is heavily mined and booby-trapped all the way in. Then, there’s a high chance that the Goons can spawn at one of several points on the map, adding more fuel to the boss-based fire.
The central point of the map is the water treatment facility, but getting there is a nightmare because it too is surrounded by mines and Rogues manning gun emplacements and boasting the ability to beam you from a drastically long way away.
Add that to a massive, expansive main road bursting with the potential for snipers to sit atop hills and PMC spawns that always feel too far from the action, and you’ve got a perfect storm of sorts.
The comments under Nikita’s post were mixed, but quite a few people have argued that the map should simply be removed from Escape from Tarkov entirely.
