Eggstinct is one of the many games featured as part of the recent Insider Gaming Showcase. Now, the game’s creator is sharing more about the classic games that influenced the forthcoming title.
On the surface, a game where you play as dinosaurs throwing eggs might seem like any Yoshi title or a Super Smash Bros. experience. However, Jesse Jenkins, the Founder of Manaforce Studios, has drawn inspiration from classic titles from decades past and more modern multiplayer hits to create a floppy dinosaur experience that players will hopefully enjoy with plenty of friends.
Eggstinct Is a Creative Mix of Rocket League and Mario 64
As part of the recent Showcase, Jenkins spoke to Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw and explained that the initial idea for the game stemmed from a desire to play a 1990s 3D platformer in multiplayer. Specifically, Jenkins cited Super Mario 64 and Spyro the Dragon as inspirations.
“The initial idea was we wanted to take classic platforming and make it like multiplayer physics-based. So, imagine Mario 64, Spyro, if you were able to play that with your friends, you know what I mean? That’s where we’ve headed. And you know, with all of that being said, we also want to make sure that we have kind of like a robust environment for cooperative and competitive gameplay. So that was kind of the initial hook. Okay. Multiplayer physics-based floppy dinosaur game.”
Furthermore, they added elements from Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Rocket League, including scoring mechanics and trick-based bonuses.
“To expand on it, we have created this kind of score system which takes a lot of inspiration from games like Rocket League and Tony Hawk. So, basically, all of the ways that you score in the game is you perform different kinds of tricks, and you launch the egg into the nest, and you get like these trick multipliers based on how you score your egg, right? We’re still in kind of the beginning phases of it, but it’s going to be more complex… also just really trying to focus on making that feel really, really fun and unique every time that you score an egg.”
Eggstinct currently doesn’t have a solidified release date. Players can currently request access to a playtest via Steam. To check out a comprehensive list on Steam of all the games featured at the Insider Gaming Showcase on May 28, click here.
