Joe Marsh Extends Time as T1 CEO to 2029

Korean reports have confirmed that the T1 board has extended Joe Marsh’s time as T1 Chief Executive Officer through to March 30 2029.

SK Telecom CS T1, the legal name of T1, held a board meeting on March 16, where the proposal to renew Marsh’s time as CEO was discussed. The motion was later passed on April 3, formally extending the American’s stay at the top of League of Legends’ most-celebrated organization.

Joe Marsh set for 10-year stay as T1 CEO

The extension means that Marsh will complete a 10-year stay at the helm of T1, after assuming the position upon the merger of SK Telecom T1 and Comcast Spectacor, where Marsh served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Business Officer (CBO).

The news comes shortly after the announcement that T1 had turned a profit for the first time in its organizational history, showing strong growth in Korea and foreign markets.

The organization also benefited from strong sponsorship growth, notably partnering with Saudi real-estate developer, Red Sea Global, in July of last year.

In that time, T1 has won Worlds three times, completing a historic threepeat in 2025, claiming their third Worlds title in a row with victory over KT Rolster.

Marsh’s Gumayusi intervention

Marsh’s contribution to T1’s threepeat was not merely in the background. The T1 CEO intervened to restore Lee ‘Gumayusi’ Min-hyeong to the roster following his 2025 benching in favour of Shin ‘Smash’ Geum-jae

In a statement regarding the Smash and Gumayusi situation, Marsh noted his actions, stating, “I have complete trust in Becker [General Manager], KkOma [then Head Coach], and the coaching staff, and after extensive conversations with them, I have requested that Gumayusi be part of the starting lineup and as a result, he will be starting when the regular season begins.

The T1 CEO added, “This decision was not made lightly, but as CEO, it is my responsibility to take a long-term view and ensure the best interests of T1.”

In the end, Marsh’s decision was vindicated with Gumayusi recapturing his form, ultimately earning the MVP award for the Worlds 2025 Finals.

Following Gumayusi’s departure from the org at the end of 2025, T1 turned to former Gen.G ADC, Kim ‘Peyz’ Su-hwan, who has since smashed the LCK Pentakill record in a resurgent T1.

T1 currently sits second in the LCK Regular Season standings, with the roster set to play in the Road to MSI from June 6 onwards. The roster has also qualified for the Esports World Cup 2026, which the team won in 2024.
