June 2026 will be a dark period for Destiny fans as this is when Bungie will cease active support on the game. The legendary developer will no longer provide new content for Destiny 2. As you can imagine, the Destiny community has gone into meltdown, cue the petition.

Guardians the world over effectively mourned in May 2026 when Bungie announced that Destiny 2 would be getting no more updates after June. The news was made even worse when it was revealed that Bungie is planning for major layoffs as an aftereffect.

Everything has compounded, and Bungie and Destiny fans are uniting to get the ‘petition Sony to develop Destiny 3’ movement rolling.

I’ll leave it up to you whether you want your name attached or to register your interest in other petitions. Even if you don’t want to do this, it doesn’t affect your petition entry.

The last time I checked, the petition had 219,589 signatures on May 26 (with more sure to follow). There’s no guarantee that any number of signees will prompt action from Bungie or Sony. But let’s get into why this is all happening.

What is the Save Destiny Petition?

The Destiny petition is a direct action from Destiny and Bungie fans who love Destiny 2, asking the company to develop Destiny 3, as Bungie has reiterated that it has no plans to make a sequel.

Destiny 2: Shadow and Order is the end of the line for Destiny, as it stands.

With Bungie ceasing updates on Destiny 2, not shutting down Destiny 2 altogether, don’t worry, you’d think the plan would be to move on and work on Destiny 3, whilst simultaneously supporting Marathon.

The news on Bungie making Destiny 3 after Destiny 2 isn’t good.

Even though Marathon hasn’t sold well and its player base is currently lower than Destiny 2’s on average, Bungie appears steadfast in its vision to support Marathon instead.

Another fascinating stat is that the Destiny 3 petition has already shattered Marathon’s peak player count. This doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but all the evidence suggests something very obvious: Fans want more Destiny, not Marathon.

It might take a bigger effort on the Destiny petition front to grab Bungie’s attention.
