League of Legends Patch 26.11 Preview: Huge Changes

Riot Games has released a full preview for League of Legends (LoL) Patch 26.11 and the copious amounts of changes it’s bringing.

Riot had promised fewer large-scale mid-season patches, yet is making substantial adjustments to the game ahead of the LoL Mid-Season Invitational esports tournament.

LoL Patch 26.11 has a lot to take in, including changes for nine champions and huge systemic nerfs and buffs.

Here is a breakdown of what League of Legends players can expect from the next update.

Riot Phroxzon Explains LoL Patch 26.11 Changes

As usual, LoL lead gameplay designer Matt ‘Phroxzon’ Leung-Harrison has given fans a full preview of the next patch.

Primarily, he has confirmed that this huge update is mostly made up of systemic changes to bring melee supports back into the LoL meta.

He also gave additional context to some of the champion changes, including why Heimerdinger is getting buffed:

“After the minion changes in the previous patch, Heimer’s turrets are a bit worse for wear. We’re giving him a feel-good QOL change so that his turrets aren’t killed by ranged minions without being able to attack back.”

Phroxzon also explained why, despite the Smolder hotfix and Deathfire Touch being changed from adaptive to AP damage, Smolder is getting even more nerfs:

“While we are making changes to the Deathfire Touch interaction that will affect Smolder, we still think he will be too strong after these changes.

“The changes to Smolder are targeted at also making his squishy Crit builds more optimal so he is more assailable later in the game.”

And finally, Phroxzon revealed that Quinn jungle could be legit in 26.11 after Riot tried to make it viable in the last patch:

“Quinn has landed in a pretty weak spot for Jungle and in this state, it’s pretty close to griefing team when picked. So, we’re giving it a pretty sizeable buff to give it a legitimate shot at being powerful and viable. Players so far have expressed interest in playing it!”
