Quantic Dream Halts Development of Spellcaster Chronicles

Quantic Dream has confirmed that the development of Spellcaster Chronicles has been discontinued.

An exclusive report from Insider Gaming from April 2026 had stated that Quantic Dream was relying on Spellcaster Chronicles to bring in revenue that could be spent on Star Wars Eclipse’s development. However, it seems the plan won’t go through, as development has now stopped.

Spellcaster Chronicles No Longer in Development

A recent post from the official Quantic Dream X account (formerly known as Twitter) has confirmed the discontinuation of development for Spellcaster Chronicles. The decision to halt development is attributed to “the challenging market environment” and the game’s failure to attract the necessary audience for long-term sustainability. As a result, the developers will be focusing their efforts on other projects.

The announcement states that this decision will result in an internal reorganization. The company has committed to handling the process with fairness, care, and respect, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing internal reassignment whenever possible. Additionally, the development of Star Wars: Eclipse will not be impacted by this decision.

Insider Gaming’s report from last month had stated, “Should Spellcasters fail commercially, NetEase is expected to reevaluate its commitment to the studio and could opt to discontinue further investment.” So maybe there’s more to come out of this decision.

Spellcasters Chronicles was in early access and will remain playable until June 19, 2026. After that date, the servers will be shut down. Players who spent money during the early access period will be eligible for a full refund upon request.
