Darksiders Warmastered Edition is now available on PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X|S. First released in 2016, the updated version of the game includes 4K resolution support, re-rendered cutscenes, better shadows and general rendering, and more.
And while you can upgrade from the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One editions of the game to your current system, one side will come with an additional cost.
PlayStation Users Have To Pay
THQ Nordic has confirmed that players looking to upgrade from the PS4 version of the game to PS5 will have to pay $9.99. Those on Xbox will receive the upgrade to the Xbox Series X|S version for free.
No reason was given for why one upgrade is free but not the other. However, a look at the game’s pricing seems to give some insight into what’s happening.
If you want to buy Darksiders Warmastered Edition on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, it’ll cost $29.99. If you want to buy it for the PS4, it costs $19.99 before the $9.99 upgrade when the time comes.
For those on Xbox, the price of the game on Xbox One has been increased from $19.99 to $29.99. So, if you don’t already have the game, that $10 difference is now baked into the base price, no matter what system you play on.
Still, the group that gets the shaft is those who already own the game on PS4 and want to upgrade it to PS5. Being asked to pay another $10 for an update to an already remastered version of a game that was first released 16 years ago isn’t likely to be something that goes over well.
