Fallout 76 Axolotl Guide—Every Axolotl of the Month Location, Explained

Fallout 76 gained a cute assortment of creatures in June 2025 when Bethesda added axolotls as part of the Gone Fission update. It introduced, as you might have guessed, fishing, and in addition, the chance for players to catch rare, exclusive creatures in the form of multi-coloured axolotls.

Every month, a new limited-time axolotl appears in a new location, and players have a few weeks to catch it. If you miss one axolotl, it might be months before you see it again. Below, I’ve put together a guide that explains each axolotl of the month, where to catch them, and how to boost your chances of catching one.

What is the Axolotl of the Month in Fallout 76?

The current axolotl of the month in Fallout 76 is the Purple Axolotl, which you can find in the Skyline Valley and Cranberry Bog locations. It will be live from May 5 to June 2. Here’s a picture:

How to Catch Axolotls in Fallout 76, Explained

To increase your chances of catching a rare axolotl, you’ll want to fish in rainy conditions and use super bait. This will give you, on average, a 30% better chance of catching an axolotl than under any other conditions. If you use improved bait in the rain, you have around a 5% better chance, and fishing in the rain with common bait won’t net you anything.

But how do you get the best bait in Fallout 76?

To get common bait, you can either purchase it from The Fisherman or Raymond Clark, completing the Casting Off mission, or Big Fish in a Small Pond. You can also find common bait in various containers around Appalachia.

To get improved bait, you’ll need to complete Casting Off, Big Fish in a Small Pond, or successfully finish any public event. Again, you can find improved bait (with a smaller chance) in containers.

To get super bait, which gives you the best chance possible of catching axolotls, you’ll want to progress through the seasons board or head to the Atomic Shop.
